National Suicide Prevention Month
September 2021
In 2008, September was first declared as National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. To raise awareness and to open dialogue and discussion about suicide, the Health Ministry, with support and assistance from ministries in the Pillars of Living, Learning, and Liturgy, will be conducting educational and spiritual activities in the coming weeks.
As our team discussed the planning for this awareness campaign, we began to open up to one another about our own stories of someone in our lives who has died by suicide, and/or currently experiencing mental health conditions or crisis.
As our team discussed the planning for this awareness campaign, we began to open up to one another about our own stories of someone in our lives who has died by suicide, and/or currently experiencing mental health conditions or crisis.
As a result, we realized that probably more people than we know have similar stories but are too uncomfortable to talk about it. Unfortunately, shame, stigma, and the “uncomfortableness” play a big role in preventing someone from openly discussing what he/she feels or is going through or what they have suffered.
We will have "You Are Loved!" cards available in front of the church at each Mass this weekend. Please enjoy this opportunity to write a kind word to someone who might need a bit of encouragement during these uncertain times.
The weekend of September twenty-fifth and twenty-sixth we will have special prayer intentions for those suffering from mental illness. These intentions will be offered during the Mass and displayed throughout the campus to encourage us to keep those struggling and at-risk in our hearts, minds, and prayers.

THE BOOK OF GENESIS"
THE BOOK OF GENESIS"
The Bible is rooted in geography and emerges from history. That geography is unique and so is the history revealed by the Bible. It is the story of salvation.
The narrative of Genesis opens in the Garden of Eden and concludes with the blessing imparted by Jacob to his son Judah. It will be the line of Judah that will bring the Messiah into the world. This epic narrative of Genesis will be presented and explained in each of the three sessions in October, November, and December.
We will wrestle with the idea of two creation accounts, a talking serpent, a race of imperial giants who roam the earth, and still other Biblical characters who seem to live fantastically long lives.
You will not want to miss this chapter by chapter and verse by verse exposition of Genesis. It is the book of the Beginning. What better way to ground your journey through the Bible? It will be me well spent!
Scripture Saturdays with Kevin will take you through the entire book of Genesis verse by verse.
