It was so good to be with you for the March 12-13th weekend, in person and live stream….and for the Parish Mission Retreat each evening. What I learned again was that when Jesus invites people to the mountaintop, get ready because transfiguration and transformation happen! And it did! And as the spiritual writer Richard Rohr said: “Transformed people, transform people!” What a message of HOPE you are for our perilous world!
I witnessed so much waking up in my observations, conversations, participation in prayer rituals, music, witness talks, meditation times, journaling, hospitality and your deepening desire to find your prophetic voice for the life of our world! As I mentioned at one of the evening Retreat sessions, it was like being at a revival, the presence of the Spirit was so palpable within us and among us!
Vatican Council II envisioned Church as People of God over 50+ years ago! You have put flesh on those words through your vibrant sense of community and active participation! No wonder people feel drawn to your community and worship!
I loved that everyone in your community has a place at the table, from the little ones, the teens, young adults, families, and the chronologically gifted (my group!!!) That is one of the healthiest signs of an alive parish community!
In conclusion, let me bless all of you, your dedicated parish team and staff, and your gifted leader, Father Kwame! As Pope Francis said: “The shepherd should smell like the sheep!” He does, and they do too!
May we all meet again on the Easter Mountain of NEW LIFE!
Warm blessings,
Sr. Joann
