Dear Saint Charles Borromeo family,
I will be out of the office beginning today, Tuesday, May 10th through Monday, May 16th. Please extend a warm St. Charles welcome to Father Luke who will be officiating our 5:00 p.m. Mass on Saturday, May 14th. As well as to Father Samuel who will be officiating the 7:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11:30 a.m. Masses on Sunday, May 15th. For assistance while I am away, please contact Mary Hengl, Office Manager, or Holly O'Hagan, Communications Manager.

Vacation Bible School Team
On behalf of the Vacation Bible School team, we would like to invite you to visit our registration and donation table this weekend. We will be outside of Borromeo Hall after the 5:00 p.m. Mass Saturday, May 14th and after all the Masses on Sunday, May 15th.
This year's Vacation Bible School children will learn about the MONUMENTAL love of God! Help us by visiting our donation board on Saturday, May 28th and Sunday, 29th outside of the Church after each Mass. We are asking all parishioners to take part in this year's VBS by choosing a card from the board. Each card will have a different instruction and donatable item listed. For example, a card might ask for a food item, or supplies for VBS. Monetary donations are also welcome and greatly appreciated. To donate via our online system, simply click HERE.
We are excited to share God's love with your children this year! Vacation Bible School will be held June 13-17, 2022. Registration is still open, and spaces are available. Click HERE to register today!

SB 364 School Meals for All*
SB 364 would make school meals available to every public-school student without red-tape or paperwork and provide meals for students when schools are closed. SB 364 will cut school administrative costs, improve learning, help families and support California farmers and food producers. In California, every child has the right to a free education, regardless of income. Yet, while we know that good nutrition supports classroom learning, schools are required to implement bureaucratic applications to determine financial need before serving a child a meal.
SB 364 would make school meals available to every public-school student without red-tape or paperwork and provide meals for students when schools are closed. COVID-19 and the resulting economic crisis have worsened hardship across the state, and our immigrant communities are among the hardest hit. CalFresh is a critical lifeline for millions of low-income Californians; but many immigrants are unjustly and explicitly excluded from CalFresh and our state-funded California Food Assistance Program (CFAP). Our State can only thrive when no one is left out.

These numbers are even worse for community college students. SB 641 addresses college student hunger by codifying recommendations by the work group on student hunger that was established by AB 1930 (Skinner, 2014). While the Department of Social Services has issued regulations based on these recommendations, SB 641 proposes to make them law to ensure that eligible college students have better
access to CalFresh benefits.

There is no state entity responsible for serving children of incarcerated parents or ensuring their well-being. To reach the most vulnerable children and families, California must specifically examine and address the needs of children
impacted by parent or caregiver incarceration.
