MEMORANDUM: October 3, 2023
TO: All Parishioners, St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Community
FROM: Fr. B. Kwame Assenyoh, Parochial Administrator
SUBJECT: Transfer and New Assignment of Administrator
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Dear Saint Charles Borromeo family:
I write to inform you that, effective December 1, 2023, I will no longer be your pastoral leader: I am being assigned as the Priest-Chaplain of Saint Mary’s College of California at Moraga, CA.
The reason for my transfer is not because of any problem with me or my ministry here in this beautiful and beloved community. Instead, the assignment is a recognition that I have a skill set that can support and enrich the Catholic faith and identity of college students, staff, and faculty in the only liberal arts Catholic college within our diocese, albeit it is not a diocesan school. Hence, I go because the need is greater at Saint Mary’s College.
Since July 2019 when I arrived here as your pastoral leader, learning about Jesus Christ, the Church, the human person, and justice have been central in my ministry. This is because I blame the problems of Christianity today on the refusal to update and post-modernize our knowledge of the faith. Saint Charles Borromeo and I have done our best to keep our community updated in learning, liturgy, and living. For this I will be forever indebted and grateful to the staff, pastoral council, finance council, all the ministries and their coordinators, and yes, every individual and family of this welcoming Church.
Father Augustine Joseph, who is currently the administrator of Saint Augustine Church in Oakland, is assigned to begin as the new pastor of Saint Charles Borromeo on December 1. Therefore, I have two months of lame-ducking and preparing for a smooth transition. You and I will have the chance and time to count the blessings of God in our ministry and celebrate them.
Finally, I pray that you would embrace Fr. Augustine with open hearts and work with him just as you did for me and with me.
With all gratitude, may God bless and keep us always in Love.
