What Shall I Give Up?
This is a common question we hear as Lent begins. Generally speaking, it is a personal decision that will help one become a better person.
Lent invites creative sacrifice - offering not just what is easy to give up but what challenges and transforms us. Instead of traditional fasting, consider sacrificing time for service, silence for reflection, or comfort for growth. True sacrifice fuels renewal, deepening faith and purpose in this sacred season of Lent.
Annual Visit To The Sick:
Visiting the sick is a corporal work of mercy that reflects Christ’s love and compassion. By offering comfort, prayers, and presence, we bring hope to those suffering in body or spirit. This act of charity fulfills Jesus’ call: “I was sick, and you visited me” (Matthew 25:36). It reminds the ill that they are not alone and are deeply valued. This month I had the privilege of going out and meeting with our homebound parishioners. It was an opportunity to spend time together and pray with them.
I want to thank Silvia Single, our coordinator for the sick and homebound ministry, who arranged it all so well. I would like to thank all the ministers to the sick and homebound for their generosity, care, and the love with which they carry out the ministry.
Maintenance Work:
Essential maintenance work around the parish has been successfully completed, ensuring a safer and more comfortable space. The roof has been repaired, protecting the buildings from leaks and weather damage. Additionally, the heating and cooling system in the rectory has been replaced as it was beyond repair. These improvements enhance the building’s longevity and create a more welcoming environment for all who visit. Thank you for your support in making this possible.
Parish Mission:
The parish mission led by John Angotti was a tremendous success, inspiring the community through powerful music and heartfelt messages of faith. His dynamic storytelling and uplifting songs deeply resonated with attendees, fostering a renewed spirit of hope and unity. Parishioners departed feeling energized and spiritually enriched, eager to live out their faith with greater passion. The event strengthened connections within the church, proving to be a truly transformative experience for all who participated.
Report On The State Of The Parish:
During this weekend's Masses, we will present a report about the parish and its finances. It is a requirement that the pastor presents the finances of the parish to the members once a year. You can find printed copies of the financial statement in the vestibule of the Church. If anyone has questions, they may be addressed to the finance council.
Saint Charles is in a strong and stable state, with financial sustainability achieved through steady donations, fundraising events, and community support. Attendance remains consistent and growing. The facility is well maintained, ensuring the church remains a welcoming space. With economic viability secured, future initiatives - including youth engagement and charitable activities - continue to grow, strengthening the church’s role as a pillar of our community.
