Hello, Parishioners:
On Thursday, July 3, we honored Saint Thomas the Apostle, often remembered as “Doubting Thomas.” Yet his story is one of profound faith. When Thomas touched the wounds of the Risen Christ, his doubt transformed into one of the clearest professions of faith in Scripture: “My Lord and my God!”
Thomas teaches us that doubt is not the enemy of faith, but often its doorway. He was honest about his struggles. He wanted truth, not merely comforting words. And Jesus met him where he was, inviting him to touch and believe.
We, too, carry questions, wounds, and uncertainties. Like Thomas, we long for evidence that Christ is truly risen and present in our lives. Jesus invites us, as he did Thomas, to draw closer, to see, to touch — through the sacraments, through Scripture, and the love of the Christian community.
Thomas later carried the Gospel far, even to India, giving his life for Christ. (By the way, my family traces our Christian roots to the works of Saint Thomas the Apostle, who landed on our shores in 52 AD. There is also one of the oldest Jewish synagogues in the world in the state of Kerala in India, where I was born.) His journey reminds us that faith is not just a matter of belief, but a mission.
May Saint Thomas help us transform our doubts into deeper faith, and our faith into bold witness for the Risen Lord.
Saint Thomas the Apostle, pray for us!
