Hello, parishioners:
Each year on August 15, the Church joyfully celebrates the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is a day of profound beauty and hope as we honor Mary, the Mother of God, who was taken body and soul into the glory of heaven at the end of her earthly life.
The Assumption is not only about Mary—it is about us. In Mary, we see the promise of what awaits all who follow Christ in faith and love. Just as she was raised into heavenly glory, so too are we called to share in the resurrection and life eternal. Mary’s Assumption is a sign that the human body, created good by God, is destined for glory, not destruction.
While the dogma of the Assumption was solemnly defined by Pope Pius XII in 1950, belief in this event stretches back to the early centuries of the Church. It is deeply rooted in Christian tradition and has always been a source of consolation for the faithful. It reminds us that heaven is real, and that our lives have a goal far greater than this world can offer.
Mary’s life was one of perfect cooperation with God’s grace. From her humble “yes” at the Annunciation to her faithful presence at the foot of the Cross, she gave herself completely to God’s plan. In response, God crowned her with the glory of heaven. Her Assumption affirms her unique role in salvation history as the first and most faithful disciple.
This feast invites us to imitate Mary’s virtues—her faith, humility, and unwavering trust in God. In our daily struggles, in times of doubt or discouragement, we can look to her as our model and our intercessor. She is the surest path to Jesus, and her maternal care continues to guide the Church on our pilgrim journey.
As we celebrate the Assumption, let us lift our hearts to heaven. Let us renew our hope in the resurrection and commit ourselves more fully to the path of holiness. Just as Mary was assumed into heaven, we too are called to be with God forever. May her Assumption inspire us to live with our eyes fixed on Christ and our hearts open to His will.
Mary, assumed into heaven, pray for us!
There will be two Holy Masses to celebrate the
