Note: The following message from the OCIA team (which includes me) is a reprint from my July 31 flocknote and serves as a reminder that our OCIA classes will begin on Wednesday, September 10.
Hello, parishioners:
Whether you’ve been exploring the Catholic faith for a while or you’re just beginning to feel God stirring your heart, know that you are warmly welcomed at Saint Charles Borromeo Church.
The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the process by which adults and older children learn about the Catholic faith and prepare to become full members of the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. But it’s more than a program—it’s a journey of discovering God’s love, forming new friendships, and growing closer to Jesus Christ.
Here at Saint Charles Borromeo, our OCIA team is dedicated to walking alongside you every step of the way. Together, we’ll explore the teachings of the Church, Sacred Scripture, prayer, the Sacraments, and what it truly means to live as a Catholic disciple today. Regardless of your background, questions, or stage in your faith journey, this is a safe and welcoming place for you to explore, learn, and grow.
Each person’s path through OCIA is unique. Some of you may have never been baptized, while others might have been baptized in another Christian tradition and are now feeling called to join the Catholic Church. Some may be baptized Catholics who never received Confirmation or First Eucharist. Wherever you’re starting from, we are here to support you.
OCIA takes place in stages, beginning with a period of inquiry where you’re free to ask questions and discover the basics of the Catholic faith. It then moves into deeper formation, leading to the joyful celebration of the Sacraments of Initiation, usually at the Easter Vigil. However, the journey doesn’t stop there—our Saint Charles Borromeo community is eager to continue supporting you as you deepen your relationship with Christ and His Church.
Thank you for taking this important and courageous step. We believe God has led you here for a purpose, and we look forward to sharing this beautiful journey with you. May this time in OCIA be filled with grace, peace, and joy.
Welcome to Saint Charles Borromeo Church—and welcome home!
Our OCIA Team members are: Jay Hines, Kathy Allen, Ken Simons, Ana Way, Larry Lange, Carmela Chy, and Fr. Augustine.
