Hello, Saint Charles Parishioners:
As we journey through the month of November, the Church offers us many beautiful opportunities to deepen our faith and rejoice in the sacred liturgical celebrations that mark this season. Here are some of the special observances we’ll be honoring:
All Saints' Day, November 1: It is a solemn feast honoring all the saints in heaven - both those formally canonized and those known only to God. It reminds us of the universal call to holiness and the hope of eternal life shared by all believers. On this day, the Church celebrates the countless men and women who lived lives of faith, love, and sacrifice. Their example inspires us to live faithfully, seeking to grow closer to God and to one another in holiness and charity.
The Church Militant consists of the faithful on earth striving for holiness amid trials. The Church Suffering includes souls in purgatory being purified before entering heaven. The Church Triumphant is made up of the saints in heaven, rejoicing eternally in God’s presence. Together, they form the one Communion of Saints.
All Souls' Day, November 2: This is a special day of prayer and remembrance for all the faithful departed. It has been in the tradition of the Church to pray for the faithful departed from its beginnings. The Church invites us to pray for the souls in purgatory, that they may be purified and welcomed into the fullness of God’s presence. It is a time to reflect on the mystery of death, resurrection, and eternal life, offering Masses and prayers for our loved ones who have died. Through our prayers, sacrifices, and acts of charity, we express our love and hope in Christ’s promise of everlasting life.
The Feast of Saint Charles Borromeo, November 4: It is the feast of our parish. It honors our parish’s patron saint, a model of faith, humility, and pastoral zeal. As Archbishop of Milan, Saint Charles dedicated his life to reforming the Church, caring for the poor, and strengthening the faith of God’s people. His deep love for the Eucharist and tireless service to others continue to inspire us today. As we celebrate his feast, we thank God for his example and pray that our parish may follow his spirit of holiness, compassion, and faithful service to Christ and His Church.
Altarcitos: During November of each year, we take time during Mass to remember our dearly departed loved ones. I encourage everyone to bring photos of their loved ones and place them on the altarcito tables located in the statue alcoves on the north side of the Church. Please remember to label the back of each picture with your name and contact information.
