Be a Blessing for Others

Every day, God gives us opportunities to become a blessing in the lives of others. Bishop Benny reminds us that our Christian vocation is not only to receive God’s blessings but also to share them generously. A life centered on Christ naturally overflows in love, kindness, compassion, and service.

The Gospel teaches us that Jesus was a blessing wherever He went. He comforted the sorrowful, healed the sick, welcomed the outcast, and fed the hungry. He never overlooked those in need. Instead, He saw every encounter as an opportunity to reveal the Father’s love. As His disciples, we are called to continue that mission by becoming signs of hope and mercy in our homes, workplaces, schools, and parish community.

A simple story illustrates this truth. A teacher once gave each student a candle and asked them to light another person’s candle before leaving the classroom. Within moments, the entire room was filled with light. No candle lost its flame by sharing it; instead, the light multiplied. In the same way, every act of kindness, every encouraging word, every generous gift, and every sincere prayer has the power to brighten another person’s life without diminishing our own.

Being a blessing does not always require extraordinary sacrifices. It begins with ordinary acts done with extraordinary love - a visit to someone lonely, a phone call to encourage a friend, patience with a family member, forgiveness offered to someone who has hurt us, or sharing our time and resources with those in need. These simple gestures reflect the heart of Christ and bring His presence into the world.

Our parish becomes a living witness of the Gospel when each member chooses to be a blessing. Together, we can build a community where people feel welcomed, supported, and loved. Let us ask the Holy Spirit to open our eyes to those who need our care and to give us generous hearts that respond without hesitation.

May the Eucharist strengthen us to go forth as Christ’s disciples, bringing His light, peace, and joy to everyone we meet. As God has blessed us, may we become a blessing for others each day.
